It’s a funny thing about spring. Most influencers would have you believe that the grass is now green, the flowers are in full bloom, and we are all skipping through magical gardens alive with bunnies, butterflies, and birds. If you live in some areas of the country, that’s probably the case. But for others, the snow is still falling and the high temperatures for the week are expected to be in the single digits.
Spring is a tricky time of year. We think we know where we are headed, but we may be in for a surprise or two.
Just as the New Year is associated with setting goals and making fresh starts, spring is associated with deep cleaning. This can be a positive thing. At home, we tackle our closets, wipe down the baseboards, and look through those boxes stored out in the garage. Similarly, at the office, we look back at the first quarter to evaluate. Did we meet our goals or do they need some dusting off and adjusting? As communicators, are we taking creative and meaningful approaches to our writing, messaging, and marketing, or are we stuck in our routines?
Maybe it’s time for a refresh, before summer’s intense heat starts to sizzle. Identify areas where you are excelling and where you know you can “clean a few things out” to make room for change. Additionally, this is a great time of year to learn something new. Take an on-line class. Attend an in-person workshop. Read a book. Focus on your writing, whether it be your technique, subject matter, or even how you edit. Redefine challenges as opportunities to inspire your work with your clients and to elevate your business.
Things are definitely going to warm up over the coming months. So, get out your metaphorical dust pan and broom, and “Spring it on!”
